Abortion me up, People!

Come on, people, I need your help. Thanks to everyone who's already responded here or emailed me privately, but I could sure use some more help.

I'm seeking opinions on abortion, particularly partial birth abortion. You may tell me who you are or you may remain anonymous. I'm writing a research paper and would appreciate any help you feel like offering me.

Sometime in the next week or so I'll try to post some questions here for you to answer. But in the meantime, opinion me up!

Thanks.

If I walk into a hospital, point a gun at a doctor, and say "You will not use the medical procedure you have chosen to save that woman's life, but must choose another" and the woman dies, I have committed murder, through depraved indifference to human life.

Partial birth abortion is almost exclusively carried out to protect the health of the mother. It is the safest method for women with dangerously low blood pressure, and with several other medical conditions which make pregnancies dangerous to both fetus and mother.

So if partial-birth abortion is banned, presumably some women will die while a more dangerous method is used, or will die due to complications in pregnancies that would have been ended with a partial birth abortion. Since the only reason the doctors who would otherwise have performed the measure prior to the ban would refuse to afterwar is that they fear criminal prosecution. To put it more bluntly, they fear the use of force by the state. Therefore the state is murdering those women.

Some of us accept the idea of state-sanctioned murder. Some of us approve of wars, some of us approve of the death penalty.

Abortion is not state sanctioned murder, since the state merely declines to act if abortion is not banned. However, in threatening doctors who perform abortions with jail time, they are actively threatening the doctors who would save the women's lives, therefore it IS state sanctioned murder.

So pro-life is pro-murder! Isn't logic fun?

Note, I don't actually think that pro-life is pro-murder, but that this is a trade-off, and we need to understand that people will die if abortion is banned. And not just people who were bad and had sex before marriage and so deserve the smiting of god, but also wives who are simply unfortunate enough to have had a medical problem while pregnant.

Jenn, are you asking him or me that? Because it's highly probable that it's either of us...or both. :)

just to be the devil's advocate on the aforementioned argument - women who have gone that far with their pregnancy, would probably rather die than kill their child - or maybe thats just me... who knows
