Baby steps
A few months ago I went to a seminar at UTD that dealt with transgender issues. The panel consisted of several people who were at various stages of changing the gender they were born with. A woman who had completed the process made an interesting point: she would never be able to marry a man legally (at least not until laws regulating marriage were changed) in the United States because her birth certificate would always say she was born a man and gay marriage is illegal in the U.S.
This morning I read this story from the Associated Press and it gave me hope for the possibility that one day every American will be treated equally.
