Goin' to the chapel...

David's story:

This past Saturday, I took Holly out for brunch at the Dream Cafe on the Quadrangle, and then we went to the Nasher Sculpture Center. Nice set of Matisse and Picasso sculptures in the gallery inside, by the way. Outside, in the sculpture garden, while walking through "My Curves Are Not Mad"* I asked Holly to marry me. She accepted.

I should point out that there is no particular symbolism to the name of the piece where I proposed. I did not know it at the time. By that point I was too distracted for looking at little name plates, and I certainly didn't have the presence of mind to plan it out, and I selected that place somewhat on the spur of the moment. It was just one of those large sculptures that you walk through, which afforded us a little privacy in an otherwise public place.

And while the following observation might seem out of character for me, I will nonetheless relate it. Warning, the following may seem saccharine.

Just as we reached the spot where I wanted to propose, the church bells at the Cathedral of the Virgin of Guadalupe began to ring, and were ringing as I proposed. Of course, I just thought of it as being a nice sound that was adding to the ambiance of the garden - any symbolism is entirely in the eye of the beholder. It was a coincidence, but it was a nice touch.

The ring is an oval dark red sapphire in a silver mounting.
