Chantix: Day 2

Well, that little experiment is over.

While Chantix might be good for some people, it is definitely not good for me. The details of last night are really too still strong to try and write about them now but maybe I will later.

I did some research and one of the first things I found out was that people with fibromyalgia should not be taking Chantix. Also, people who suffer from insomnia or other sleep disturbances should not take this drug. There are several other reasons it's not the right one for me but I'm too tired and really need sleep before it will all make sense enough to put into words.

If you need to quit smoking, please don't automatically trust that your doctor will do the best thing for you. Do a lot of research for yourself before you decide. Should be easy to remember by now, right?

I'm going to research more into the patch and see if I think it'd be better for me but whether I decide to use that method or not, my quit date remains the same. David has helped me quit before and he's committed to helping me now. He'll be rationing my cigarettes for the rest of the week to help me taper and then Saturday is the final day.

So wish me luck. It's not easy to quit smoking but I've done it before and I can do it again. Maybe this time it'll stick; that's my goal. But I'm just imperfect enough to know that I might start again. Maybe that's all it'll take to finally quit for good - the awareness that smoking is one of my strongest vices and probably will be for the rest of my life so that thought might be enough to stay away from my own personal crack forever.

We'll see.

Are your doctors all completely retarded?! Or illiterate?

I don't think they're all retarded, just the one really. I'll tell you more about all of it tomorrow night but suffice to say that I might soon be looking for a new doctor. A friend who works in a law office that handles medical cases emailed a PDF of all the side effects, etc., so I think I'll print and go through it with a highlighter of everything I experienced and turn it over to my doc on Wednesday at my appointment. God love her, but I don't think she has my best interests at heart and since my world revolves around me and everyone around me just happens to be in it, she should definitely be thinking of me first. :)

I'm sorry to hear you had such a horrible night, but I'm glad to hear that you are still committed to your quit date. I used the patch in the past, and it did help, but I couldn't wear it at night because it really messed with my sleep, so I just thought I'd mention it. Hang in there, and good luck!

I'm glad you checked on things to trust your gut instinct. One thing does not work for everyone, but there is one thing that will work for you, you just have to be willing to look for it and stay with it. Good luck.
