Insulting every person's intelligence, one building at a time

The Duluth New Tribune reports from Wichita, Kansas that Operation Rescue recently purchased a building that once housed the Wichita Family Planning Clinic. You might remember this facility from the early 1990's when protesters picketed the building, drawing national attention.

Operation Rescue purchased the building and proceeded to evict the clinic, thereby leaving only one clinic in the Wichita area to do the abortion procedure. Now when you call the number in the phone book for this clinic, you get "Choices Medical Clinic" rather than "Central Women's Services." That's right folks, the anti-abortion bigots didn't even have the decency to change the phone number. They have been accosting women for years at the doors of abortion clinics all over the United States and now they'll be drawing women further into their web of deceit by allowing them to assume that they are an abortion clinic, when in fact their goal is to prey upon the already heightened emotional state of pregnant women.

Let me be clear: I have no problem with people taking a stand for what they believe in. What I do have a problem with is people who think I'm too stupid to know for myself what is best for me. Operation Rescue and its employees are obviously so afraid that we might not bow down to their god that they are honestly willing to ruin the lives of countless women who are making already very difficult decisions regarding themselves and the fetuses they are being forced to carry to term against their will.

Thankfully Kansas has not yet followed in the footsteps of South Dakota by banning all abortion. Hopefully the clinic will be able to reopen elsewhere so that women will continue to have access to safe, legal abortions.
