This morning at five a.m. I awoke sweating, shaking, and in excruciating pain. Pain so intense that I almost passed out three different times and had to fight the urge to vomit all over myself. When I walked I was doubled over and when I laid down I was in the fetal position. Although this was the third time in two weeks that I've had this type of pain, this was by far the worst. Third time's a charm, I guess. On a scale of one to ten (with one being me, a bottle of wine, and several chocolate martinis at a Buffy Sing-Along in Austin, Texas, and ten equating to expelling a ten pound, 23 inches long human being from my vagina) the first time was about a six, the second time was about a seven, and this time was a 9.5.
After suffering in private on the couch for about an hour I finally woke David so he could help me. I think the amount of pain I was in must have really scared him because he wanted to call an ambulance. I however wanted nothing more than to sit in a hot tub. Even though he drew me a bath that I promptly curled into, the pain did not go away.
About an hour and a half after the pain started, it subsided, just like it did the first and second times. Only this time the pain didn't go away completely but has been lurking there, all day, in my lower abdomen waiting to twinge at me every few minutes or so, seemingly just to remind me that, "Hey! LADY! I'm still here waiting to suck the ever-loving life out of you!" Lucky for me I had a previously scheduled doctor's appointment for today.
The first thing that Dr. Awesome did was give me a pregnancy test to make sure I wasn't having a tubal pregnancy. Thankfully, the test was negative. On to bigger and better things. After giving away six vials of my precious precious blood and having x-rays taken of my abdominal region, I still don't know what's wrong with me. I'm having an ultrasound tomorrow that will hopefully rule out appendicitis. If that's negative, I don't know what happens next.
Hopefully whatever it is will be easy to fix with a minimal amount of invasion into my person and with the promise of a pretty bottle of pills waiting with my name on it to assist me in my quest to sink into painless oblivion for even an hour or two.
