RIP Jereme Parrott - 1978-2006

My mom called me a little bit ago to tell my that a friend of mine was killed on Monday in a forklift accident at work. He was married and had a two-month-old daughter. He was 28.

Do you know how weird it is to refer to him in the past tense? He "was" this. He "had" that.

I don't really know how to feel. I guess I'm kind of numb. I haven't talked to him in awhile, because you know, life gets busy. How lame is that?

I've been trying for the last several minutes to sign the guestbook for him that's online and I can't think of anything to say. I have no idea why I can't think of anything to say. I read what some of the other people said and it mostly just pissed me off. "God will see you through this trying time." "We can't know God's will." "Rest assured that he's in heaven now." "Be comforted that he's with Jesus."

Let me tell you something. If ever you have an opportunity to try and comfort me because I've lost someone, do NOT try placating my emotions by telling me to be comforted because of God or Jesus. Doesn't work.

His funeral is tomorrow and I can't go, obviously, because I didn't find out about it until tonight but my mom said my dad might be able to go.

I feel really weird right now. David says it's human to feel this way but it still feels very odd. I've gotta figure out what to say on that guestbook that isn't retarded or catchy or trite.

Why do you feel you have to leave a note in the guestbook at all? If you feel like saying something, if something comes to mind, write a note and mail it. It's much more personal, plus you don't have to worry about everyone else reading it.

Just my $0.02.

Thanks guys. I just put some stupid "thinking of you" message on the guestbook but on the card that was sent with the plant I put some of my memories of Jereme for his wife to read. I've never met her but I thought that would be a good way to honor him.
